Have You Been Told You Have a Herniated Disc?

Let's Understand What May Be Driving
Your Symptoms.

A disc finding on an MRI is only part of the picture. Our first goal is to understand how your symptoms, movement, examination findings, and relevant imaging fit together before discussing supportive care options.

A herniated disc diagnosis is evaluated non-surgically at Regenerative Medicine of Raynham in Raynham, MA. Dr. Brian Petrie, DC reviews your symptoms, movement, examination findings, and relevant imaging to determine whether the disc finding may be clinically relevant — then discusses which supportive options, if any, are appropriate. What May Be Contributing to Your Symptoms?

Disc Changes

A bulging or herniated disc may be associated with local pain or irritation near a spinal nerve, depending on its location and clinical significance.

Nerve Irritation

Irritation or pressure involving a spinal nerve may contribute to radiating pain, tingling, numbness, or weakness.

Joints & Soft Tissues

Spinal joints, muscles, ligaments, and other surrounding tissues may also contribute to pain, stiffness, or restricted movement.

Movement & Mechanics

Mobility, strength, posture, previous injury, and movement patterns may influence spinal loading and day-to-day function.

Similar symptoms can arise from different structures, and disc findings may also be present in people without symptoms. That is why the imaging finding should be interpreted together with the clinical evaluation.

Our Approach

We do not claim to repair or reverse a herniated disc. Our goal is to support the body's natural recovery processes while improving movement and function through an individualized evaluation and care plan.

How we evaluate patients
  1. Control inflammation
  2. Support recovery
  3. Restore function

These represent supportive care goals — not a representation that a disc lesion will be structurally repaired, regenerated, or reversed.

What you can expect

Personalized Evaluation

A personalized evaluation of your symptoms, history, movement, neurologic findings when appropriate, and relevant imaging.

Honest Recommendations

Recommendations based on the complete clinical picture — not an MRI finding alone.

All Options Discussed

A discussion of appropriate options, including referral or co-management when another provider or approach may be more suitable.

Focus on Function

A focus on supporting movement, strength, comfort, and your ability to participate in work, exercise, and everyday activities.

How long does it take?

Every patient responds differently. The timeline below reflects general patterns and is provided for educational purposes only — not as a prediction of individual results.

  1. 1

    First 1–2 weeks

Early care focuses on calming irritation and identifying the positions, loads, and activities that aggravate your symptoms.

  2. 2

    Weeks 2–6

Many patients notice small changes first — easier sitting or driving, fewer flare-ups, more comfortable sleep. Gentle mobility work begins.

  3. 3

    Weeks 6–12

Strength, endurance, and tolerance for walking, standing, and lifting often continue to change as the spine handles more daily demand.

  4. 4

    3–6+ months

Progress continues past the last visit, with the focus on maintaining function and staying active in the ways that matter most.

Hear From Patients Who Were Once Where You Are

Patients describe their own experiences with sitting, walking, driving, work, exercise, and everyday activity.

The individuals featured are sharing their personal experiences. Individual responses to care vary, and these experiences should not be interpreted as a guarantee or representation that another patient will experience the same or similar results.
